“Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” (Modern Rheumatology)

The journal “Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” (Modern Rheumatology) has been published since 2007. Editor-in-Chief – Professor A.M. Lila, MD, Director, V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology; Head, Department of Rheumatology, Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education, Ministry of Health of Russia.

Today rheumatology is one of the most rapidly developing medical specialties, which not only effectively uses science advances, but also contributes to the progress of global fundamental and clinical medicine. At least 30% of the population in the world, including inRussia, suffer from rheumatic diseases. The outcomes of rheumatic diseases are a quick disability, worse quality of life, and premature death. The outcomes of rheumatic diseases are a rapid disability, worse quality of life, and premature death. It has been rheumatology that has achieved the most spectacular progress in the therapy of severe forms of chronic human inflammatory diseases.

Before the emergence of the journal “Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” inRussia, only one journal devoted to the issues of rheumatology was published, which was clearly insufficient in the rapid development of this field of medicine and also taking into account the fact that rheumatology is at the intersection of several medical fields, such as cardiology, immunology, dermatology, oncology, clinical pharmacology, etc. The emergence of the journal “Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” in 2007 became a reflection of real needs to elucidate the topical issues of this branch of medicine based on a multidisciplinary approach, information of physicians about the latest achievements of global and Russian rheumatology, on the principles of early diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases, and stimulation of researches in this area.

The main goal of the journal “Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” is the postgraduate training of rheumatologists. It is no secret that main scientific brainpower is concentrated at large research centers where intensive research and clinical work is underway. But physicians working in remote regions of our large country far from the large research centers in regional and urban clinical hospitals also need to constantly have information about achievements in the field of rheumatology and related disciplines, advanced medical technologies, and new treatment options.

The journal “Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” accomplishes this important educational mission. The Editorial Board of the journal and its Editor-in-Chief who is Acting Director of the leading Research Institute of Rheumatology of the country strive to achieve high-level knowledge in rheumatologists on the whole territory of Russia so that physicians at the periphery can render timely skilled care to their patients and, if necessary, refer them to the large centers for consultation and treatment.

The journal publishes lectures and reviews on the topical problems of rheumatology, international and Russian clinical guidelines for the management of rheumatic diseases, the results of original investigations, interesting clinical cases, discussions, and information on symposia and conferences and carries on a lively dialogue with its readers.

The rheumatologists of the whole country know and read the journal that is also intended for therapists and physicians of related specialties.

“Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” is a peer-reviewed journal. The Editorial Board selects articles for publication according to strict criteria: evidence-based medicine papers have advantages; those containing questionable, non-confirmed data that reflect solely the author’s independent position are rejected.

The articles submitted to the journal undergo double-blind peer review (2 reviews from 2 peer reviewers). Both the Editorial Board members and independent experts in this area (they should not be from the same institution with the authors of the article) may act as peer reviewers. Reviews of the article are kept for 5 years.

The most important task of the Editorial Board is to include the journal “Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” in international citation indexes. Russian rheumatologists, authors of the journal, strive to become members of the world’s scientific society and have a high impact factor. The journal focuses on the requirements elaborated by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and complies with the rules required for inclusion of a journal in international citation indexes.

The Editorial Board of the journal primarily pays attention to the ethical aspects of the authorship of articles – all authors should participate in writing the article and, if necessary, be involved in its revision. A conflict of interest is necessarily taken into account: the patients’ interests rather than commercial interest should be in the first place for a doctor. The authors of the journal are young scientists, applicants for the academic degree of Candidate or Doctor of Medical Sciences, and known rheumatologists. The journal has been published regularly for 14 years.

A DOI is assigned to all articles published in the journal, facilitating their search in electronic databases. Each article is accompanied with its reference for ease of quotation. All articles have an abstract and keywords in Russian and English, information about the authors and their affiliation; the contents of an issue are also translated into English. A reference list is given in accordance with current requirements; Russian sources are transliterated.

The publishing Open Journal System (OJS) is used, which assists in optimizing all publishing processes: from receipt of a manuscript by the editor to makeup of the journal.

The policy of the Editorial Board and publisher is the maximum publication openness. This is contributed to a great extent by high-quality bilingual journal website (mrj.ima-press.net), at which full-text versions of recent issues of the journal and its archive during all years are freely available.
