Aleksandr Mikhalovich Lila

MD, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director, V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology; Head, Department of Rheumatology, Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education, Ministry of Health of Russia, Moscow, graduated from the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy in 1984.

Main research areas:

– rheumatology, clinical immunology;

– hematology, including the problems with rheumatic diseases concurrent with hematologic malignances;

– sociomedical aspects of diseases of the locomotor system.

A.M. Lila was born in 1960, graduated from the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy (MMA) with honors in 1984, and then he served as an outpatient physician and an intern of the Department of Therapy in a military hospital. He entered the Postgraduate Courses at the Department of Hematology and Clinical Immunology of MMA in 1989, he defended his medical candidate’s thesis in 1992, and doctoral thesis in 1999. He was awarded the academic rank of professor in 2001.

In 2000 to 2011, A.M. Lila held different positions (professor of the department, academic secretary, vice-chancellor for research and education) at the Saint Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. In 2011, he was appointed to serve as acting chancellor of the I.I. Mechnikov Saint Petersburg State Medical Academy within the period before its reorganization. In 2011 to 2017 he was the vice-chancellor for education at the I.I. Mechnikov North-Western State Medical University, Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation; since July 7, 2017, he has been Acting Director of the V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology.

A.M. Lila’s area of expertise is rheumatology; clinical immunology; hematology including the problems with rheumatic diseases concurrent with hematologic malignances; and sociomedical aspects of diseases of the locomotor system.

A.M. Lila is a research supervisor of one candidate’s thesis and currently prepared candidate’s theses by four applicants. He is the author of 264 publications, including monographs, books, and practical guides for rheumatologists; the h-index is 11. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal “Sovremennaya Revmatologiya” (Modern Rheumatology) and a member of the Editorial Boards of the journals “Nauchno-Prakticheskaya Revmatologiya” (Scientific and Practical Rheumatology) and “Klinitsist” (Clinician).

Professor A.M. Lila is a member of the Presidium of the All-Russian Public Organization “Association of Rheumatologists of Russia”; the Vice-President of the Association of Therapy of Saint Petersburg; and a member of the Presidium of the S.P. Botkin Scientific Society of Therapy of Saint Petersburg. He has received 3 medals, Excellent Worker of Public Health badge of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia.

Professor A.M. Lila enjoys well-deserved recognition and respect in the medical community as a prominent scientist, a talented rheumatologist and general practitioner, teacher. He has a wealth of experience in organizational work at one of the largest medical universities in Russia. A.M. Lila has made a substantial contribution to the development of rheumatology service in Saint Petersburg and the North-Western Federal District.
